Make sure to check the route to your chosen school very carefully and well in advance of your first visit. If you need to travel by bus or train, familiarise yourself with the relevant timetable. Make sure that the times fit in with your own lecture timetable and allow extra time on your first visit to be sure that you arrive in plenty of time.
Travel Expenses Schools which are more than 1.5 miles from the University are not considered to be within walking distance. On completion of the scheme you can claim the cost of your bus fares, up to a maximum of £45. You should choose the cheapest tickets available, which where appropriate will be a return journey. Travel costs will not be re-imbursed unless you have completed the requirements of the scheme. Remember you must keep all of your bus tickets to submit with your claim.
UoRSIS will reimburse your travel costs for your chosen school up to the maximum £45. You are eligible to buy an Extended Boost Ticket for reduced fares which is valid for all University of Reading Students. You must verify your valid student ID on the Reading Buses app prior to buying your bus tickets in order to receive the Boost fares and you must show your University ID at time of purchase. In order to claim, you must submit valid receipts of all your bus journeys and fill out an expense claim form. Claims can only be submitted on completion of the scheme.

UoRSIS will reimburse car mileage to schools for which there is no viable bus route up to the maximum £45. The amount which can be claimed will be calculated based on the distance from campus. Please note: If you are driving your own car to the school, it is important you know what is covered by your insurance. Some insurance companies will count volunteering within the ‘domestic, social and pleasure’ category, others require it to be classified under business miles. It is essential that you check that you are suitably covered by your policy. How to Claim Once you have successfully completed the requirements of the scheme you will be able to book a time to come in with your travel tickets to submit an expenses claim. Sessions will not be available to book until later in the spring term. |
