About Students In Schools

The University of Reading has a long-standing reputation for working with local schools.  The Students in Schools scheme has been established for over 20 years and continues to go from strength to strength.

The scheme enables students to volunteer to help teachers in local schools with the aim of raising awareness of higher education, the aspirations of school pupils and their attainment.

The scheme benefits students, teachers and school pupils. Students develop highly transferable skill and improve their communication skills and self-confidence. Teachers welcome the additional support in the classroom while school pupils enjoy having a new face and interaction in the classroom.

Last year over 350 students volunteered in 40 local primary, secondary and special schools.  Together they spent over 6,300 hours helping to increase awareness of higher education and raise the aspirations of Reading’s schoolchildren.
