The University of Reading has a long-standing reputation for working with local schools. The Students in Schools scheme has been established for over 20 years and continues to go from strength to strength.
The scheme enables students to volunteer to help teachers in local schools with the aim of raising awareness of higher education, the aspirations of school pupils and their attainment.
The scheme benefits students, teachers and school pupils. Students develop highly transferable skills and improve their communication skills and self-confidence. Teachers welcome the additional support in the classroom while school pupils enjoy having a new face and interaction in the classroom.
Every year hundreds of our students volunteer in local primary, secondary and special schools. Together they spend thousands of hours helping to increase awareness of higher education and raising the aspirations and attainment of Reading’s schoolchildren.
