This page outlines the mentor curriculum for employing school mentors for the Postgraduate Teacher Apprenticeship Programme (PGTA).

Our Mentor Training Curriculum has been designed to ensure that, ‘all mentors receive sufficient training to ensure they can effectively support a trainee teacher to obtain the knowledge and skills they need to successfully complete their ITT school placement,’ (DfE, 2024). At the same time, it has also been designed with mentor workload in mind and thus it takes prior mentor training into account so that all training is purposeful and is a manageable commitment.

As per the DfE 2025 guidance, new mentors are able to claim for up to 16 hours of training and those who mentored during 2024-2025, up to 6 hours of refresher training. Please do ensure you complete any forms alongside each module to confirm completion; this will aid us in checking the hours for you to claim at the end of the year from the DfE.
